                    Performance Project - students will give an oral presentation on an artist/group of their choice.  This presentation can involve the use of original music, powerpoint, video, visual aids, pictures, or illustrations to a story.  It must include:  background information about the subject, style information (who influenced their style, how can you show that), how did the times affect the music, what makes this particular sound of music unique, what lasting effect has this person/group had on the development of Rock and Roll, musical examples and references.

     4.1.a  analyze aural examples of a varied repertoire of music, representing diverse genres and cultures by describing the uses of elements of music and expressive devices

     4.2.b  evaluate a performance, composition, arrangement, or improvisation by comparing it to similar or exemplary models

Basic Summary of Unit:

   Each generation has sought to identify itself through the music of their time.  Students will need to understand how these identities were formed and what influence the various genres of music have had on this formation.  Students will gain insight into understanding what significance specific historical events have had on the lyrical content, varied instrumentation, and compelling rhythms in the music of different decades.
